If there is one thing I have never been able to stand, even before getting my degree, is being able to notice when a piece of dialog has been rerecorded and does mix well the organic sound of the rest of the scene.
After watching the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, I am extremely upset that Nolan caved and altered the voice.
He was so adamant about it being what it was.
Yea, it’s “clearer,” but now it just sounds too fake.
If there’s one thing that bothers me, not only as a man but as a “black man,” it is the concern or worry on people’s faces when I’m out in public.
The other day, while I was looking for a record store in broad daylight, this older woman is walking down the sidewalk towards me, looks up and then hurriedly crosses the street; all the while looking back at me suspiciously.
One evening not too long ago, I was walking home from the Chipotle by my house as I passed a gaggle of young, college aged women. They were taking up most of the sidewalk so, out of kindness, I stepped to the side and let them pass. Each and every woman in this group noticeably clutched their bags more tightly and started speaking in hushed tones until they passed me.
I can’t count the times I’ve been followed by security through stores and malls on the suspicion of shopping while being a black male.
Generally, I give the world the benefit of the doubt, but more times than I’m comfortable with, does the world abuse that.
I want to tell every single one of these people “hey, I am absolutely harmless.”
Seriously, if you’ve known me for longer than two minutes, you know that I am as dangerous as a Labrador puppy.
I don’t know what brought this to mind, but I thought I would share.
Reminder that JK Rowling had the single major female villain in Harry Potter raped as punishment for her transgressions (being a strict disciplinarian and believing the government instead of some angry fifteen-year-old prick) and then had the Golden Trio laugh at said villain for her trauma.
You are a terribly stupid fucking fool. Umbridge was not raped. She was chased down and almost killed. You literally read that passage and assumed she was raped because of a Centaur gang-mentality. You are reading something into Harry Potter that does not exist. You are also, ironically, doing a similar thing to what Umbridge thought about Centaurs: you assume they are evil and would rape anything that walks in the forest. I can’t believe you are really bringing rape culture into something where she wasn’t raped. Rowling specifically wrote it as her being beaten and almost killed. Dumbledore saved her life and got her out of there alive. Simple as that.
And if someone says that the rape is implied because of how Centaurs are written in mythology, I would immediately point out that JK Rowling writes Centaurs as a respectable race of beings, not a group of beings who can’t keep themselves from raping women. -_____-
Also, Bellatrix Lestrange is a major female villain. Did this person even read Harry Potter?
